Why was iFitness removed from the app store?

Posted by Michael Williams January - 29 - 2011 136 Comments

iFitness is an iOS application that was available in the Apple App store. A few weeks ago the app mysteriously disappeared.

Where did the iFitness app go?

What’s happened with iFitness? Through my various searches no one seems to know for sure. All we do know is that it is no longer available in the app store. The developer Hooman Zohoor web site for iFitness still links and refers to the app as if it is available. The developer has an email listed as ifitness.support@gmail.com and says contact anytime. However, I’ve contacted several times starting over a month ago before and after the app disappeared. The developer has never responded. Have you had any success contacting them? Where is the ifitness app?

I can’t re-download iFitness as it’s no longer available in the app store

Well this is true. However, this is why I always advise frequent computer syncs with your iOS devices. And / or to purchase apps on your computer first. If you have the app on your computer then you can obviously restore it to your device. Otherwise you may be out of luck. If your device is jailbroken, you can of course install it from a cracked app source (I’m against stealing apps. However, in the case you paid for the app and it’s no longer available for re-download. I don’t see this as steading).

Does iFitness still work?

Even though it was removed from the app store. iFitness does still work fully with current and previous iOS firmwares. In fact, iFitness has a built in feature which allows you to backup and restore your workout data to their servers. This feature still works as well. Which is kind of strange. If iFitness completely disappeared from the app store you would expect the online features to store working. Maybe iFitness will make a return to the app store? Maybe it was just removed from the US store? As the developer doesn’t respond all we can do is guess.

What app is there to replace iFitness?

I’ve tried out several apps and I have yet to find one that provides what I would replacement status for iFitness. Have you found an iFitness replacement? If so, let me know. What I’ve seen so far was lacking in the sense of not having enough exercises to choose from, logs that are not sufficient or detailed, and / or bad iPod control integration.

For now as I have iFitness backed up in iTunes and installed on my iPhone. I will continue to use it. In the event something changes with iOS down the road. I will continue to look for a replacement.

iFitness code sold back with new name Full Fitness

I originally posted an article talking about iFitness Removed From The App Store. The topic got a lot of feedback as users were wondering what was going on. A commenter on this site Ohmzzz made mention of a new App “Full Fitness” that looked pretty similar to iFitness. I decided to do a little further research.

After being contacted by the developer. It appears that the app does indeed have similarities. However, the reason being the previous code was sold and is being handled by a new team. Therefore, you will see some updates to come.

Free Full Fitness Promo Codes!

The new developer of Full Fitness was kind enough to provide some promotional codes. I already went ahead and purchased the app so I can’t take advantage. However, that just means instead of 4 I have 5 to give away to my commenters so just let me know that you want one and I’ll email it out to you. First come first serve.

Full Fitness Removed From The App Store

Full Fitness has now been removed from the App store, as it’s former app iFitness. Why was Full Fitness removed from the App store? At this point I can only speculate, but I’d guess it had a lot to do with the developers of crappy apps complaining. We will see how this develops.

iFitness still works and has all my info but the workout timer is too low now and I never hear it through the music. Any good alternatives?

    • Michael Williams says:

Make sure your phone is not on vibe. Don’t even get a tone then. It is really low anyway though.

      • Frank says:

I use a Ipod touch so no vib function.

I think IOS 5 made the workout timer “ding!” too low and killed the online backup ability. It’s a real bummer, this was a life changing app.

  2. Avit says:

I am not sure since when but I think it is since IOS 5, the backup function on fullfitness stopped working :-(

    • Mutt says:

I believe if the pull the app from the store, they are done supporting it. You can’t really expect the developer to keep a server running for backing up an app for users that no longer is being developed for.

  3. TheCrescent says:

Guys, I’ve been using this app since iPhone3G, I upgraded to iPhone 4 while there was support and now iPhone 4s. However since there is no support I cannot backup my the contents of the app nor will iCloud back the app content up so when restoring the app from iTunes I was not able to get any of my workout logs…I really need those as I progressively intesify my workouts incrementally….OMG how many more pounds do I bench today!!!

    Can anyone help?

  4. TheCrescent says:

I was able to mail myself the CSV file but this isn’t any good to me cause I cannot import this into the app on my iPhone 4s.

  5. Franc says:

If you update your device, you will lose iFitness. I am trying to find a replacement app. :( I lost mine from an update.

  6. Jeromy says:

I have the same issue. I’ve had iFitness for two years worth of steady workouts and recently updated from a iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4S and can’t bring my workout history with. I’ve tried emailing the file and backing it up but apparently the servers are down as said previously. This is a bummer because I, like TheCrescent, use my history to make sure I’m improving. Now I will begin the hunt for a suitable replacement app.

  7. Jey says:

    Hi
Thanks for the update. I updated my iPhone and lost the app. Searching for it so long and finally found the reason here.
And it so kind of you to offer the promotional code for Full Fitness. Can I have one if you still have it!
    Many thanks

  8. Elliot Bridgewater says:

I paid £1.19 for iFitness in December 2008. I deleted it around a year ago as I wasn’t able to exercise as much as I would have liked. I have now discovered it has been removed from the App Store. I intend to get a refund!

  9. Dennis says:

This is the best app ever for fitness. It works fine though for me. I had a 3GS and now have a 4S. Why the hell was this removed? It is SO complete!! Food tracker, BMI, and then ofcourse videos and amazing exercise utility.

Try Nike Training Club otherwise, its not really weights but you get a good workout. I dont know what I would do without iFitness.

  10. Alex says:

It’s very strange the app disappeared in the first place. Thank you so much for putting the time in to research this and blog about it, google linked me straight to you.
Do you have any more promotional codes for Full Fitness? I’d like to get the app back on my iPhone!
    Thanks again!

    • Manas says:

You can’t. The iPhone does not give you the ability to ilntasl programs unless you Jailbreak it, which voids the warranty on it. Plus, your application may not play well with the modified Mac OS X on the iPhone, meaning you won’t be able to see it, even if you have it.In February, Apple will release the Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows developers to release applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. There will likely be a book reader application that you can get after it’s released, but until then, it’s either illegal jailbreak or nothing.Hope this helps!

  11. super_b says:

    Hi,
Like you guys I discovered that the app was removed from the french app store as well.

  12. Liam says:

Its now back…downloaded it yesterday, look for “iFitness Pro” in the app store. Their website is here http://www.healthxperts.net/. I found out about this as the original iFitness team emailed all their contacts saying they’d sold the code on.

  13. Andy says:

As Liam said it’s back online as I installed it on my new iPod touch in June.

  14. Vincent says:

So if we download ifitness pro would we still need to pay for it if we already purchase the old ifitness just curious if anyone knows

  15. DoNotPurcahse says:

The developer of this application is known to run get rich quick schemes. He makes applications ripping data from others and puts it together to get rich. Then gets banned because of fraud.

  16. DoNotPurcahse says:

MedicalProd, HealthXperts Inc. Such bogus COMPANY names, wake up people.

  17. Justin says:

Just updated my iFitness and the update said a large company had claimed their name and because they are a small development firm they did not have the money to fight it. They are now full fitness.

  18. Bill says:

I believe I read somewhere that iFitness had been caught posting fake positive reviews for their own app which is a violation of the iTunes Store’s terms of service, thus the reason for the removal.

  19. Carlos says:

    TWO DOLLARS!!!!
I want my two dollars!!! (From movie: Better off dead)

No, seriously, I liked iFitness, too bad it went away and I ended up w/nothing….
