Why was iFitness removed from the app store?

Posted by Michael Williams January - 29 - 2011 127 Comments

iFitness is an iOS application that was available in the Apple App store. A few weeks ago the app mysteriously disappeared.

Where did the iFitness app go?

What’s happened with iFitness? Through my various searches no one seems to know for sure. All we do know is that it is no longer available in the app store. The developer Hooman Zohoor web site for iFitness still links and refers to the app as if it is available. The developer has an email listed as ifitness.support@gmail.com and says contact anytime. However, I’ve contacted several times starting over a month ago before and after the app disappeared. The developer has never responded. Have you had any success contacting them? Where is the ifitness app?

I can’t re-download iFitness as it’s no longer available in the app store

Well this is true. However, this is why I always advise frequent computer syncs with your iOS devices. And / or to purchase apps on your computer first. If you have the app on your computer then you can obviously restore it to your device. Otherwise you may be out of luck. If your device is jailbroken, you can of course install it from a cracked app source (I’m against stealing apps. However, in the case you paid for the app and it’s no longer available for re-download. I don’t see this as steading).

Does iFitness still work?

Even though it was removed from the app store. iFitness does still work fully with current and previous iOS firmwares. In fact, iFitness has a built in feature which allows you to backup and restore your workout data to their servers. This feature still works as well. Which is kind of strange. If iFitness completely disappeared from the app store you would expect the online features to store working. Maybe iFitness will make a return to the app store? Maybe it was just removed from the US store? As the developer doesn’t respond all we can do is guess.

What app is there to replace iFitness?

I’ve tried out several apps and I have yet to find one that provides what I would replacement status for iFitness. Have you found an iFitness replacement? If so, let me know. What I’ve seen so far was lacking in the sense of not having enough exercises to choose from, logs that are not sufficient or detailed, and / or bad iPod control integration.

For now as I have iFitness backed up in iTunes and installed on my iPhone. I will continue to use it. In the event something changes with iOS down the road. I will continue to look for a replacement.

iFitness code sold back with new name Full Fitness

I originally posted an article talking about iFitness Removed From The App Store. The topic got a lot of feedback as users were wondering what was going on. A commenter on this site Ohmzzz made mention of a new App “Full Fitness” that looked pretty similar to iFitness. I decided to do a little further research.

After being contacted by the developer. It appears that the app does indeed have similarities. However, the reason being the previous code was sold and is being handled by a new team. Therefore, you will see some updates to come.

Free Full Fitness Promo Codes!

The new developer of Full Fitness was kind enough to provide some promotional codes. I already went ahead and purchased the app so I can’t take advantage. However, that just means instead of 4 I have 5 to give away to my commenters so just let me know that you want one and I’ll email it out to you. First come first serve.

** Update May 15th 2011 **

Full Fitness Removed From The App Store

Full Fitness has now been removed from the App store, as it’s former app iFitness. Why was Full Fitness removed from the App store? At this point I can only speculate, but I’d guess it had a lot to do with the developers of crappy apps complaining. We will see how this develops.

Review of Fitness Fast

I’ve been using the below app Fitness Fast. This is my new goto.

It has been removed for far to long. I have not found a single app that replaces this. Tried many… been using “gymbuddy” as it does kind of what I need but lacks so many features that Ifitness has. I’m really actually upset that you cannot download this even if you have paid for it. Do you know if you can get your money back for this? I may try one of my old backups to see if I can find it on there.

Very annoying that this has been gone for long. I heard that it was due to review boosting and all this other junk. As a user of the product I could care less. They just need to get the app back so I can use it as a tracker. I’m wasting my money downloading crappy knock off’s.

    • Michael Williams says:

I had purchased an app a while ago that did not work as expected and I was able to get a fast refund using this iTunes store link. It’s worth a shot, but I can’t say for sure what they’ll do in this situation. Also you may try to emil the dev directly at ifitness.support@gmail.com. Maybe someone will get a response.

I do agree that it’s very annoying though. If review boosting that’s crazy for them to do that. Thanks for the info. I’m still waiting to hear back from the dev. If they ever respond I’ll update.

      • Simon Dahlmann says:

Hey there, it is the same guy that owns iFitness as the full fitness app because they are using the same cloud to upload on? I just got full fitness and I could restore from my iFitness account :) so I have all my iFitness stuff on full fitness

    • Wolfi says:

Ive been checking a few other apps since I lost iffiness and can’t reload. So far nothing compares. My gym has a combo of weights in lbs and kgs which other apps can’t handle like iffiness. I also really liked the headers you could insert as some exercises I perform are 2 sets say 8-12 reps and others 3 set of 6-8. Almost thinking of using pen and paper again. Gee how hard is it to find a perfect bodybuilding log.
Let’s hope ifitness resurfaces or something very similar. There is obviously a market for a good app

  2. Paul says:

I haven’t been able to find anything as good either – GymGoal is not bad but it isn’t nearly as streamlined and can be very user un-friendly. Let me know if you find a good alternative – I’m looking for one too.

    • adrian says:

iFitness was the most used app on my iphone.
I recently upgraded my phone to 4.2.1 from 3.1.3. All apps were removed from my phone. I damn near threw my phone across the room after trying fruitlessly to find iFitness on the App Store, only to read it was pulled.

2 things are shameful since the loss of this app.

      1. Apple will not divulge why the app was pulled. I’ve emailed support to which they have responded that users must email the developer in order to determine the reason for the removal.

      2. The developer has decided it best not to respond to numerous emails regarding the state of the application.

If the developer chooses not continue developing this app, I certainly hope someone picks up where “Medical Prod” dropped off.

I encourage anyone using this app to email ifitness support.

      http://medicalprod.com/ifitness.html

I live in canada and when trying to install the app it mentions that this app is only available in the US. Can someone from the US confirm/deny whether its pulled there as well?

      • Adam says:

I wanted to throw my phone to when I saw that it wasn’t there after upgrading. I was really pissed. They need to get it back on the app store asap. I have sent the developer emails as well only to get no response.

Got a question… Does anyone know if its still available for Blackberry? I believe its also on Android. Wonder if it was pulled from them as well….. Doubt it though. Apple is a little strict about things sometimes.

        • Michael Williams says:

I just checked and I see that it still shows up in both the android and blackberry stores. Looks like this is just limited to Apple store. To Adrian I’m in the US so it’s not just removed from the Canada App store.

      • Daniel says:

I had the same issue, but have my computer backed up to time machine. I found the ifitness app and was able to reinstall it, even though I was unable to get it from the app store.

I can send it to you if you like, keep in mind it will no longer be updated. I got full fitness, and I’ll see how it goes.

        • Zack says:

Daniel, I would LOVE for you to e-mail me a copy of either iFitness or Full Fitness! I’m so annoyed these were pulled! I’m been looking all over the internet to find a downloadable copy, but they all just send me to iTunes which is no help. my email is zack at zteknology dot com . Thanks!

        • Keil says:

I’ve been trying to find this app again for a long long time as well. It’s just frustrating that I paid for it and now it’s gone, any chance you’d be able to hook me up with it?

        • Troy Dalmasso says:

          Hi Daniel.

I’m frustrated too, because not only did I lose many of my apps when Apple replaced a failed phone, I then discovered that iFitness is no longer available for download.

          I’d much appreciate it.

        • Jeff says:

Daniel, I would appreciate it if you send thoes two files through my email. iFitness and Full Fitness. I gave i Fitness downloaded on my Iphone but I could not find a program on my computer, so Please send thoes files through my e-mail. Thank you.

        • Braylin Smith says:

Hey I know this post is old but I was wondering do you think you can email me a copy also of the iFitness app if you still have it I would greatly appreciate it my email is marzell18@yahoo.com

        • jomar says:

please send it to me i am be emailing them and i have no idea how to get it again

        • Stephen Chambless says:

          Daniel,

I just now found out ifitness was no longer available. I will have to be more careful with backups for sure!!
Anyway, I’ve wasted time and money trying to find another app that works for me with no success. If you are still able to email the I would really appreciate it.

          Thanks,

          Stephen

        • Jose Echeveste says:

          Daniel,
I will be in debt if you can mail me the application and how to install it.
          Many thanks
          Jose

    • Michael Williams says:

When fit builder was free, I’d maybe have said while no where near iFitness. It was an ok app as it had some of the same concepts. Now that it’s $9.99 and filled with addons you have to purchase. It’s definitely not worth it. I started testing out All Fitness. So far I’m not liking it either though.

  3. Mike says:

Really strange and untransparent behaviour by Apple. Imo, there should be a list with all the apps that got rejected + explanation why.

As well as the devoloper. As a customer and internet user I’m really disgusted by this move. Both from Appple: pulling the app without saying anything or giving reasons – as well as the developer, who’s been unresponsive (or radio silent) to all email questions and this whole issue.

And iFitness has been a long time #1 in many countries so this is about quite a large sum of money, that we’re dealing with, that has been spent on this app.

I have missed ifitness as well. I had to exchange my phone and didn’t synch my apps properly and now I can not download it.

I found and email address on a developers site for someone at Apple involved with Apps. It turned out to be Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing (he reports directly to Steve Jobs).

To my surprise, he ended up replying to my inquiry about iFitness a couple of hours later with a short message:

“It appears that the developer faked thousands of accounts, downloads, and reviews about the app” and this is why it was removed from the app store.

They inflated their reviews and rating so that when anyone search “fitness” iFitness was the first listing. This led to the app being reviewed and recommended EVERYWHERE.. Men’s Health, Outside Magazine, tons of online health sites, local newspapers, which in turn led to more downloads and $ in the developers pockets.

This is too bad, because I loved iFitness and nothing else replaces it. I am hating All Fitness and that is probably the best of the remaining fitness apps.

    • Michael Williams says:

interesting info. Someone else had said it was due to faking reviews as well. At this point I’ll just keep using the app while it works. Hopefully someone else makes another app to take iFitness place.

  6. Ohmzzz says:

    Hey
There is an app called “11 in 1 Fitbox” that really reminds me of iFitness. There is a lite version “fitbox lite” that is worth checking out… It seems to have a very similar layout and look to iFitness. The dev is named Andrew Gates. Don’t know if thats a real person or what. The app seems pretty useful and has potential. Very similar to iFitness but still needs work and more exercises…. Try the lite version and post your opinions !

    • Michael Williams says:

Tried out the lite and I do agree it has potential, but it’s not quite there yet. My biggest issues so far are: it doesn’t save the weight lifted / rep from set to set so you have to manually enter each time. no rest timer or at least easily accessible. Too many clicks to get between exercise/settings.

Not to bash at all though. I definitely think it’s better than a lot of the established apps out there and useful.

  7. Charlie S says:

Hey Michael, Thanks for reporting on this. Any further luck reaching the developer for comment?

    • Michael Williams says:

Hey. Unfortunately, no luck at all with contact. I still have a few emails out there, but at this point. Given the length of time it’s been, I seriously doubt they will respond. Will update if by chance they do though.

  8. Ohmzzz says:

Check out “Full Fitness” by Health Xperts… I think “iFitness” has been reborn with a new look!

  9. Tri Nguyen says:

I’d love to try the app if there are still codes available.

  10. Lunar Soul says:

Hello. Thank you for keeping me updated on the whole Ifitness fiasco. Do you happen to have any codes left? I got burned because I bought Ifitness a week before it went down. :-( Thank you.

  11. Joey says:

I just found this and was also wondering if there were any promo codes left for Full Fitness? I’d greatly appreciate it!

  12. Joey says:

And yes I also had ifitness and am missing it. If that’d allow me to get a promo code.

  13. Ed says:

Any chance of getting one of those promo codes?

  14. Francis says:

Excellent site and Soooo frustrating… iFitness was awesome. Had to reflash my Iphone and didn’t make the proper backups :(

Do you still have a promo code by any chances?

    regards,

  15. Michael Williams says:

If / When I get some more promo codes I’ll update. They are gone for now.

  16. Blaine says:

I can pretty much guarantee you that iFitness was pulled due to faking hundreds of user accounts to get reviews and inflate their popularity. As a developer of a workout app myself, I remember when iFitness showed up. They seemed to get hundreds of reviews overnight. That simply doesn’t happen. And if it does not all of your reviews are going to be 5 stars with one line of nothing but good to say.

Apple has just recently started flat out banning developers that are caught doing this. In my opinion it’s long over due. It’s not a surprise that the developers of iFitness won’t respond to inquiries. They got caught doing some pretty sleazy business practices.

    • Stacy Edward says:

Who gives a sh*t. The app deserved the attention. I am pissed this is gone. Incredibly pissed. Ever think that it go so many positive likes because it was just that good. Because it was and now were left with sh*t options. When this stops working on my iPhone i’m throwing it out and getting an Android.

  17. dirk says:

iFitness is still available on Installous. It got pulled due to faking user accounts, reviews, etc. as Blaine said.

  18. tom says:

Do you still have any codes available?

  19. Joey says:

just checking in to see if any more codes are available… thanks!

As a developer, I can tell you with 100% confidence that iFitness totally worked the system. Here is how they did it:

    1) They bought their own app for $0.29 (they get back 70% of their $.99 purchase). The ROI for doing this is about 400%. In other words, for every $100 they spend, they earn $400. DON’T DO THIS OR YOU MAY GET BOOTED TOO!

    2) They faked ratings. It’s one thing to ask your friends and family to try out your app and rate it. But, it’s another thing to do it yourself on a regular basis to “work the system.” AGAIN, VERY RISKY, DON’T FOOL THE SYSTEM.

    3) They clicked on the “Was this review helpful?” on all their own ratings. That puts their own ratings on the top (in iTunes) but not on the device.

Other signs: Full Fitness is almost identical to iFitness (same videos, etc…). They hide their identity in their website registration. The website has almost the same IP address as iFitness.

If you find that their negative reviews were useful, please click YES. That will teach these bastards a lesson.

Regarding Apple’s position… All consumer rating systems like this are flawed. In fact, I would estimate that around 50% of all ratings on Amazon, EBay, and iTunes are fake. The only way to fix this system is to shut it down. It is flawed by nature.

BTW – I have written over 20 apps and have sold over $250,000 worth so far. I don’t cheat the system because I would rather spend the time creating more apps. In the end, cheaters never prosper.

So, please help stop cheaters by reporting them to Apple and clicking YES on accurate reviews.

Hi guys, basic math: The ROI for doing this is 70% not 400%. In other words, for every $100 they spend, they lose $30 and are left with $70.

Im interested in creating an app or buying one? Can we talk anonymous?

  21. Anonymous says:

I got more proof that iFitness and Full Fitness are working the system. Does Mehrdad Mehrain think he can get away with this? So, I was looking at the ratings of Full Fitness this morning, and it looks like a bunch of people (maybe 5 or 6) clicked on YES for “Was this review helpful?” on all the 1 star ratings. They were all listed first. I thought to myself, finally! Justice has prevailed! But, I looked later in the day… and guess what? Eight 4 and 5 star apps are not on the top because someone clicked NO on all the 1 star apps and YES on all the 4 and 5 star apps. This is absolute 100% proof that the developer is working the system. He must be watching it like a hawk because he managed to flip the rating so fast.

But, this comes as no surprise to me. In a post on Feb 17, Mehrdad expressed discontent with the US trademark system by stating that iFitness was “facing some BS trademark name lawsuit from some large US company.” So, trademarks are BS, huh? Perhaps they are where you come from, but in the US trademarks are protected by law and we don’t take kindly to cheaters. Let me guess… you think copyright laws are bogus too, right?

If you are an app developer, you should be pretty mad right now. I sure am.

    • Anonymous says:

Typo above: I meant to say “now on the top” instead of “not on the top”. The point is that Mehrdad got over a dozen people to mess with the rating system. This is clearly in violation of the developers terms of service and I am going to report this immediately. Say bye bye to another cheater.

    • Mehrdad says:

I rarely waste my time with these things, but a reader sent in this link and I felt I should address your false claims.

I cannot speak for iFitness, I will only speak for my company’s Full Fitness. First off, please disclose what your “20 apps” are instead of hiding behind the cloak of secrecy. The fact is, your apps are likely not very good. Spend your time being less bitter and focus on improving your apps. Perhaps focus on one app, as opposed to 20 shoddy ones. I truly hope you have some success eventually, as clearly, you cannot stand others having success.

Every one of our reviews are legitimate. The only exception are the 3-4 negative reviews that competitors keep pushing upward. We are getting ready to take legal action against the likes of Lam and Emad instead of waiting for Apple to do something about it. So yes, we have fake reviews: from our competitors.

Finally, in your crazy theorizing about our product, you state the IPs are the same and app looks similar. We have publicly stated that we purchased the app from them when it was removed from the store and improved upon it. That includes the servers that held the user data, so customers could import their info if they wished. We have also license all of the images. What exactly is your point?

People love the app. It has its faults, but we are receptive, and always working to improve it. In Canada, UK and AU, we are in the top 10 of all apps in terms of sales. In the US, we cannot even break the top 50 because of our competitors constantly driving up false reviews claiming all other reviews are false. Once we have taken legal action, I am sure even the situation there will change.

Give it a rest. Or at least be less of a coward and sate whom you are. I make it a rule to never address anyone claiming to be anonymous on the Internet. After this post, I will stick to that rule.

And for those that have come to our defense, here are 5 promo codes (first come, first serve). If they do not work for you, it means someone else already claimed them (sorry):

      WWJT73HF6KET
      YP4FRKATFMKF
      JHKYJW9M4JEX
      RRFTH37A66LK

I loved iFitness, and would love a promo code…I promise I’ll spread the word if I like it!

      • Jason Wong says:

        Darn, all promo codes used

      • Anonymous says:

Mehrdad, you failed to address any of my accusations. Instead, you try to discredit me by calling me a coward. This is not about me. It’s about people that work the system. And I have provided a lot of evidence against you.

Here are some more facts for people to think about:

Fact: If the bad ratings were fake, you could easily get them removed by reporting them to apple. They have a form for that. If they don’t remove them, then they must be real.

Fact: You give away promo codes to help boost your ratings. And doing so here is simply another example of that.

Fact: You manipulated the rating system. There is no way that 20 five star ratings became “most helpful” overnight and all the one star ratings were marked “unhelpful”. This is proof that you are messing with things. What is your defense against that one?

Fact: You stole stock images from a website that doesn’t even allow you to use the images in devices. This shows a great disrespect for US laws.

Fact: 70% of the your ratings are for the current version that has only been out for a short time. Most have a distributed number of ratings on each version depending on how long they have been out. But, you have resubmitted your ratings to bump them to the newest version. This is a well known trick that is used by people working the system.

Fact: 10% your ratings for all versions are a one star. Yet, in the latest version has only 3% one star ratings.

I am a strong proponent of justice. If people steal or work the system, then other developers will lose money and users will be upset.

So, let’s see how long it takes Apple to kick Full Fitness out of the store like they did iFitness. Then we’ll know who is telling the truth here. My bet is on the honest users who rate the app with one star.

        • Michael Williams says:

Debate is good, and I’m a strong believer in fairness. Looking at it from a consumer view though. My concern is the best app. I’ve tried most in the app store and being a person that works out multiple times per week. I’ve yet to see an app that comes close to iFitness / Full Fitness.

They all lack in one way or another.

Not to make it personal, but honestly it seems if some devs took more time building their apps and listening to feedback. Than worrying about the competition. They’d do better.

I’ve bought several apps based off the reviews, but my continued use depends on the function of the app, not the reviews.

Fact is Full Fitness is great and looking through the actual comments. A large portion of the 1 stars are people saying something to effect of “this use to be iFitness.”

          • Graham says:

Have to agree. This is without doubt the best app I have, and the one I use the most. I love that there are frequent updates and improvements. Clearly a lot of time has gone into developing it from the point of view of someone who uses the gym.

Can’t say I really pay that much attention to the ratings anyway.

        • DullJohnny says:

@Anonymous… I happened to love the app as well. It did have a couple of glitches however for the cost of the app and the overall functionality it rocks. I can change up my routine as needed and focus on muscle groups as needed without the need to research outside of the gym. Great tracking, backing up, etc. It’s a solid app and @Anonymous, you sound like a moron with your rants.

      • Anon says:

Looks like your app was removed again… I guess Apple didn’t believe your reviews were legit either. It’s a shame because I like your app… Use it every day.

      • RASHARD says:

Hello…MEHRDAD I love ifitness and today Monday,October 24,2011 I just found out that by downloading the new version iOS 5.0 to my IPhone. Itunes deleted it from my phone and my computer during the download. I am vary confused right now how can I back something up on my computer and still lose it during the download process. Its driving me crazy 3 plus years of workout regiment gone:-( no no nooooa? All I can do is try to laugh it off right now after reading all of this stuff online I guess there is nothing I can do about it.So when ever your APP Full Fitness can be released again PLEASE email me so I can go buy it. THANK YOU for taking the time to read my message…

    • Wolfi says:

I’m not too fussed about writing their own reviews – so long as it’s a good product. I’m still lucky that I have ifitness on my iphone and LOVE it.

If this was a trademark issue of some large US company, then how come iFitness is still available on Android? Oh, and why do medicalprod.com and healthxperts.net have almost identical IP address on the same hosting service. How dumb do these guys think we are?

  23. Dave says:

    @ anonymous –
Um – I’m sorry they used some unethical practices to up their ratings BUT … They had an awesome app!!! Way better than any of the other workout apps out there! If you were competing against them then you didn’t really have a chance anyway whether or not they raised their own ratings because the other workout apps pretty much suck.

  24. Sam says:

    1) How does “Anonymous” know so much about ifitness…?? Either he has no life and has spend all this time researching iFitness, or he has some grudge against iFitness.

    2) Regardless of why iFitness was removes, I found the app to be helpful, and its too bad it was removed.

  25. Sammy V says:

    Any codes left?

    • Michael Williams says:

The dev posted some codes above. If those don’t work I don’t have any more at this time.

        • Michael Williams says:

Hey. The short answer is most of the apps don’t function exactly as you’d like. Most have “programs” in the sense they give you a set of exercises to work with, but input is still needed on your end.

I’m reviewing a couple apps now and will have a few alternate apps for you tomorrow. If you need help picking a routine though or something let me know. A fitness app is good for tracking reps / sets from day to day. After a couple workouts though you’ll use the apps more to track progress than give you direction.

  26. hifatpeople says:

Can i have a promotional code, i purchased iFitness, went to download it today and it was gone. I get $5 a week so i dont see myself buying the new app anytime soon.

  27. h says:

it looks like Full Fitness has also been removed from the appstore, I cannot find it as of today…

    • i says:

And the iPad version was removed too. Looks like they got booted from iTunes just like iFitness did. It was obvious that they were working the system because there is no way this app deserved to rank in the top 10 of all apps. I wonder how long it will take them to try this again under a new, fake company name.

  28. H says:

Full Fitness may have been removed due to complaints, but it could also be due to Apple finding that the developer was engaging in fraud (which I hope is not the case).

I am concerned because I bought iFitness and then lost the app when it was removed and then i bought Full Fitness and now its been removed too, at least this time i was able to back it up.

Ive tried looking into the fraud claims and i still have some serious questions for the developer especially in light of the points mentioned in comments on this site.

I am still disappointed that when iFitness was removed, the developer did not respond to my emails to find out what was going on with the app i paid for. And I am further disturbed by the vague “explanation” that was given on the medicalprods site as it makes no mention of the reason for which apple removed ifitness, which from comments here, it was from faking thousands of accounts. If what apple says is true, then the explanation given by ifitness developer is direct deception of the consumer an i am deeply offended by it.

And if it turns out that the full fitness developer was booted for the same offense or that they turn out to be the same developer as ifitness, then i would support legal action taken against full fitness because due to fraud consumers such as myself ended up paying multiple times for an app. And already i am disenheartened by the full fitness developer’s unprofessional response to the points another comenter brought up.

In any case, i think a complete and transparent explanation from the developers of ifitness, full fitness, and Apple are in order.

Again i found the apps very useful, and i have not found an app for me better than full fitness as of yet, but fraud is fraud, and lying is lying. If the allegations are true then i dont appreciate being taken advantage of because some devs couldnt play by the rules they had already agreed to.

    • h says:

I sent an email to iTunes regarding my concern about the iFitness and FullFitness apps and I received a response recommending me to submit my concerns on Apple’s iTunes feedback page. I hope some good comes from it.

  29. David says:

Sucks that this app was removed. AGAIN! Even if the developer does manage to get the app back in the store under a different name I think I’m done with them.

I’ll use full fitness until it stops working.

  30. Jamie says:

Thank you for this great article and updates. The practices by the person who made this program is questionable at the least. Hopefully full fitness will continue to work.

  31. me2 says:

I agree David, i’ll just use the application untill it stops working..
I doubt i’ll buy it again it most likey will get pulled no matter how good an app it is..

It’s probably was the best one on the market.. even if they were working the system, i got results from it.. at the gym…big time..

  32. chris says:

Ok, so now what? I’m new to all this iphone app stuff. Have lost 73# with diet and cardo, but i want to start using weight to tone everything up. I know nothing about weights.. what to do, where to go, how heavy, how many reps….So my friend told me about the ifitness. Tried and tried to find, now i know why. So then you all said Full fitness…so i looked up full fitness, but all the comes up is full fitness trainer. Is this the same? This is what i’m looking for and would love any help… i need a app that i can turn on and it tells me were to go and how much weight and how many reps… Please… Please… i don’t mind paying for it… if it works. thanks

  33. Cris says:

Sad. I like iFitness and use it everyday. I hadn’t purchased Full Fitness only because I didn’t think they improved enough to warrant another purchase and, now that they’ve been pulled, I’m glad I didn’t buy it. Still though. It is a great app. I have yet to find another one that comes close.

  34. Andy says:

I cant belive this, firstI purchased Ifitness and then Full Fitness as i thought i would now get updates and now Full Fitness has been removed to! Apple need to stop ripping us off!

  35. Tom says:

This app was one that I used almost everyday for the last two years I could care less what they did or didn’t do to Apple the app worked and was designed better then 90% of apps do and should still be available !!!! I have sold a few of my friends on purchasing the Iphone over others almost completely on the merit of this App. This sucks!!!!!

    • Troy says:

I am there with you and everyone else. I have religiously using this app since it was first introduced and have sold many of my friends on it. I still use it and will keep using it until they come up with something better which I doubt they will. I love the fact I can make it my own and adapt to changing work out techniques.

  36. Troy Dalmasso says:

iFitness was an okay app–I had some complaints with it. There will surely be something better, especially since the market is proven for this application. So whoever’s bellyaching, just sit tight and an honest developer will come along with something better. And more deserving.

Frankly, I think there should be a class action suit against this jerk–I think all the money paid to him should be returned to the customers. Cheaters never win.

    • joe says:

He provided you with what you asked him to, there’s no grounds for a class action there at all. Your problem is with Apple, that’s pulled the ability for you to retrieve the app that you paid for. Steve Jobs is the biggest scam artist going here.

      • h says:

On the contrary, the developer did not provide to Apple what Apple asked (and the developer agreed) for, namely an app that did not violate its rules. So the developer scammed Apple and we the consumer also feel the brunt of it.

In any case it was the developer who was guilty of the breach that started the mess.

  37. Edweirdo says:

From the previous post, I understand there are no apps that are nearly close to equivelant to Iftiness (which I used religiously everyday and then fatefully upgraded- damnit!)…gymgoal, gymbuddy, fitbox….I’ve heard these suggestions. Can anyone suggest something else that is close to Ifitness? Thanks

  38. iFitness 2.0 says:

To the developer of the iFitness replacement app: you know you have your work cut out! There are users here that drip sweat on iFitness on a daily basis. I’m sure every one of them has their own opinion on any replacement to iFitness, so I’ll just go ahead and share mine here..) Feel free to ignore me but do, please, make it a good one!

To improve the exercise selection maybe you could allow me to select the variations? Rather than a “barbell bench press” and a “dumbbell press”, list only the bench press and let me set the equipment myself (barbell, dumbbell, machine), the angle (flat, incline, decline), tempo, flex, partials, etc. There will be less exercises in the list for you to produce, which will make them easier for me to find, and provide everyone with more variations that are sorely missing.

Also, to get into the ex-iFitness user base quickly, think about dropping the videos and graphs from version 1.0. Personally, and as a long time user, I don’t use the videos any more and the graphs were always buggy to the point of useless. Obviously when you have time… anyway, the best of luck with it.

  39. Paul says:

Has anyone tried Fitness yet? if you put iFitness app into google it comes up with an apple link and Fitness is what you get, from the pictures it looks again alot like iFitness but modernized. Is this a replacment worth getting? or another that when reaches its quota will be pulled!

    • Michael Williams says:

They just paid for the keyword iFitness on google. “All-in Fitness” if that’s the one you’re talking about had a nice layout but the features were nowhere near a comparison. Didn’t like that app at all.

  40. Rus Beresford says:

in a rage! updated up my iPhone back in Feb 11 and lost my ifitness, currently using “All Fitness” for past few months….. its fairly average.

From UK and it hasn’t been available for ages in uk from i can see

Had all my exercises and history in ifitness seems like its all lost :(

  41. Wendy says:

Wow, I guess I’m one of the lucky ones; my iFitness has stuck with my phone for months (though I haven’t used it regularly), and even through my update to iOS 5, last night. I’ll have to take good care of it.

Such a shame the developers arsed about in the iTunes store, and shot themselves in the foot. It’s a terrific app, and word of mouth reviews would have buoyed them up sooner or later.

  42. Ralph Buelling says:

Like many others have said above: iFitness is a great app and I have been using it 5+ day per week for about 2 years now. It’s unfortunate that the developer thought that faking reviews was necessary, you would think that a great app like that would speak for itself.

Anyway, I tried the iOS 5 upgrade as well and I agree with Wendy that workout logs still work. I could not get the auto sync or backup/restore to work, though. I guess at some point these features would have stopped working anyway with an app that can’t be changed anymore. I will start backing up the data to iCloud (which works fine as far as I can tell) instead. That’s not as elegant, but should do the job.

I also took a look at the other apps mentioned above:
    - FitBox
    - GymGoal
    - Gym Buddy

Of these three I liked Gym Buddy ($2.99) the best, I think it is closest to iFitness it terms of replicating workout log functionality. Instead of a cloud-based backup it includes a desktop-based backup solution. I prefer backup up to the Internet, but as I said: that does not work with iFitness anymore, either.

I will send a note to the Gym Buddy developer and suggest the Internet-backup as a future feature.

    Thanks.

    Ralph

    • Michael Williams says:

Just a note that when I was using the beta of iOS 5. I couldn’t backup my logs. However, with the final version of iOS 5 I am able to backup / restore my logs again.

  43. John says:

I lost ifitness a few months ago after updating my iphone. I use to exercise daily and was in great shape but since I lost the app I guess I lost motivation since I cant track how I’m progressing now. Im sure im not the only one who had their life changed by this app. I tried other apps but they’re really bad, I’m surprised no one knows how to make a halfway decent fitness app. Found this site when I went searching for the ifitness again. So sad, I paid money for this and the app store cloud is suppose to backup all my purchases, they shouldn’t be able to take it from me.

    • Michael Williams says:

I’m not 100% sure on this one, but I believe the app cloud only backs up what is currently in the app store. Since it was removed it won’t be backed up.

  44. Tim says:

Is there any way to get iFitness if you have a developers acct?
I lost my copy and am totally bummed about it.
There must be a way to retrieve an app you already purchased.
I really don’t give a rat’s %## about what sort of bad business the devs got themselves into. They made a killer app that no one seems to be able to replicate or even come close.
I haven’t read a single post describing it as less than awesome.
    Oh well.

    • Michael Williams says:

I agree. Although unfortunately, once an app is removed from the app store. Dev account or not it’s gone. There are only two for sure ways to get it.

      1) If you jailbreak your device you can download it from one of the cydia apps resources.
      2) iTunes accounts can be shared, so someone else that purchased and still has it could technically authorize your computer and send you the app.

  45. h says:

I have since switched to an androidvice but there is a very decent application on iPhone/android called JEFIT. It took a little bit of time to get used to, but once i did i liked it better than both ifitness and full fitness. Especially the Jefit pro version is good but that may be not yet released on iphone (it is on android though).

    • Michael Williams says:

Just gave this app a quick run through. Too early to really comment, but I must say. So far look like it has potential. Have to really go through it.

  46. Graeme says:

Am trying to restore my info from the cloud since I upgraded to ios 5 it just seems to whirr away but not complete the restore. Michael have you been able to backup/restore recently? Thanks.

Also to Tim, do you not have an old time machine backup you can trawl for the ipa file? I’ve done that in the past.

    • Michael Williams says:

My last backup was this morning. I haven’t had any issues. I have back ups set up to the cloud now, I did restore from my computer. I haven’t tried a restore from the cloud yet. I’ll give that a go later on tonight and let you know what happens

      • TJ says:

I upgraded to IOS5 (my iphone4) and saw that ifitness was missing after the upgrade. Somehow reached this forum. I did get it back but apparently the ipa file was hidden in an archive itunes file and not the latest mobile app directory.

  47. JasonJ says:

I have the app, but the data didn’t seem to make the trip w/ the OS5 upgrade.

Can’t get the server to restore. So bummed, had a couple years worth of routines, pictures, weight info, etc.

    Seems to be all lost.
    :(

    • JasonJ says:

      REDEMPTION!!!

Had to check the box to auto sync changes, looks like the auto sync wasn’t working fully (still did lose some data from July) but I’ll take it.

A shame the dev screwed themselves like they did.

  48. Rick W says:

I lost my ifitness when updating as well, i really want to get this back somehow, any ideas?

  49. Rick W says:

Is there somehow i can at least get hold of all the info i uploaded to their servers from the app?
