So after pre-ordering the iPhone 4S at my local AT&T store this morning. I receive the following email from shortly after:

Dear,
Thank you for your recent order. Your iPhone will ship in approximately 14 to 21 days*. All orders are processed on a first come, first served basis.
You can check the status of your order anytime by visiting www.att.com/wirelessorderstatus or by calling our automated system at 1-877-782-8870.
There are mixed messages. Some are saying they are just being cautious. Others are saying this is when they’ll actually ship.
This seems to be limited to people who ordered in an AT&T store. Members who placed the order online seem to be receiving the correct date of October 14th.
What is your status saying?

While it’s yet to be said what will happen with those of us who ordered from AT&T while the delivery date was saying October 14th online.
Now Apple.com is showing a delivery date of 1-2 weeks for all orders going forward.

Just checked my order status and they no longer say backordered. Looks like everything is going as planned for Friday delivery.

Got a tracking number. Notice it says it shipped on the 10th. So looks like we’re all set.

Package has finally left it’s origin location of Fort Worth, TX. All that’s left now is to receive.

For anyone who didn’t receive their phone, here are two things you can do to get one in person quicker. I’ve been updated by many who have done these today:
- Go to an AT&T store. Many have phones in stock. Have them cancel your pre-order and purchase a in person. This is confirmed to be possible.
- Purchase the phone for full price and once the pre-ordered device arrives, refuse delivery. Once returned you will be credited what you paid for the pre-order, plus the additional you paid in person. I wouldn’t go this route, but this has been confirmed as well.

Me too. Hopefully, we’ll all receive on the 14th as shipping is still for delivery day on Apple.com. No way to be sure as of now unfortunately.

I spoke with an AT&T rep who stated the iPhone SHIPS 10/14/11 and NOT delivered on the 14th as listed on Apple’s website.
I’m on hold to speak with a supervisor at apple to get that straight.

Apple rep stated that it is NOT false claims listed on the website and that (according to date of order – but up until 5 minutes ago) all order will be DELIVERED ON 10/14/11

Called and had the worst agent ever. Transferred to a super who told me that there was a cutoff of 4PM. if order was placed before you will get on this Friday. Orders from after will be 14-21 days
I spoke with a rep who told me that all iPhone 4s’s ordered from the AT&T site will SHIP on the 14th.
Thanks for the confirmation. I’m seriously contemplating canceling my order with AT&T and risk getting it from the apple store on Friday..

My status no longer shows backordered and I’m hearing word of others orders beginning to ship.
I’m going to hold off till at least Thursday. They don’t charge you until it ships, so I don’t see a point in canceling now. Today is technically a bank holiday, but tomorrow the funds charged Friday should be back in our accounts until it ships.
I’d hate to cancel early and then risk not getting a phone at all on Friday. Worse case, cancel on Thursday and then try your luck Friday.
I don’t think you can cancel the ATT order. You have to handle it as a return, once you get it. At least that’s what ATT has told me – and I called about 30 minutes after placing it.
Very curious also!! I too was told that my bank account would not be charged until it was shipped. Well… my bank account was charged today! I was told immediately when I ordered (Sat) that it would be 3 weeks. ??? I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I called ATT and was told a different story each person I spoke with. I hope I get my phone this week.
I can only tell you guys that when the Iphone 4 Launched last year, I ordered my phone at a local AT&T store on the first day of pre orders. I was suppose to get mine on the Friday of Launch, But the day before I fedex truck rolled up to my house with the phone. By 2:30 pm the day before I was activated and running fine.
I went online Friday morning at 7 am and by 7:10 had my order confirmation. I would say that if you got in before 2 pm on Friday and got a preorder Confirmation, your good for Launch day on Friday or perhaps even the day before. Once AT&T has the stock in hand they will start shipping them out ASAP.

I ordered my iphone 4s after 4pm on Friday, 10/07. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping to receive it on Friday, 10/14 even though my email confirmation says “Your iPhone will ship in approximately 14-21 days”. I ordered through AT&T Premier and yesterday the transaction showed up on my bank account.. I’m hoping that makes a difference!
Anyone of the first 200,000 will get it on time, meaning if you ordered within the first 12 hours, you will get yours on Friday.
how do you know? i was one of the first 200,000 i ordered it at 6:30 am on the 7th and still dont have the confirmation that my phone has been shipped.
P.S. Michael, FYI, do not go down to the AT&T store next time for pre-ordering. Order it online or go down to the Apple store. Going to the AT&T store … just because your “sales associate” took your order at 10AM doesn’t mean he submitted it then. They do it in batches and God only knows when that is during the day. Online gets you right into the system. I had my confirmation within an hour and it stated it would be delivered on the 14th.
I normally would’ve just ordered directly from Apple. I was thinking about switching to Android though and had tried out the Samsung Galaxy S II. I had to return it in the store. That messed up my online eligibility status, so other than wait for it to reset once I returned the phone. Unfortunately that was my only choice at the time. Never again.
I’m no longer showing back ordered so I’m pretty confident I’ll get it Friday. Either way, next time I’m going directly through Apple as I did in the past.

Oh, I see. Yes, that would be tricky. (It’s good to get it on or near the time of the launch because that puts you in a better position for eligibility next time.) I mean, we wouldn’t die if we didn’t get our phones by Friday!
But I’m sure, like me, you’re really excited! I’ve had this 3GS for over 2 years, and while it still works great, I’m ready for a new one. Yes, actually mine said, “Back-ordered” too, if I recall, but I wasn’t worried about it, because my email said 10-14. Good luck! I hope you really enjoy it! 
Correction! I got a confirmation within a few minutes and an “order accepted” email within an hour.
I ordered two iphones on the the 7th at 4 am (PT) and got an order confirmation, but as of today the order still hasn’t been charged to my account and my order status says “attention.” I spoke with a rep and he said the it just means my order is in process and they’ve changed the estimated delivery date to 21-28 days as of 12:00 am Oct. 8. I asked if that applies to customers who placed their orders on the 7th, and he said yes, because it takes 24-48 hours to confirm the order. Who knows when we’re going to get it :/
Good luck with that….I ordered 2, I said “attention” and the other didn’t. I figured it out on the 11th, FINALLY got through, there was a credit card issue (even though I used the same card both times). I was REPEATEDLY promised that I was still on for the 14th. Hubby’s is on its way here from Ft. Worth via FedEx. Mine is in the queue to be delivered whenever. They consider the “order date” to be whatever date the “attention” was resolved, so I’d call again. I have a friend who is high up at AT&T and she’s worked the issue and that’s the best they can do right now, so even though I ordered on the 7th and got a confirmation, I’m outta luck.
Just got off the phone with AT&T. The rep told me the 4S will ship on October 14th. I think AT&T was very misleading to do this after the announcement by Apple (and apparent follow through) that pre-orders will be delivered October 14th. I am going to ask AT&T for a concession on my account to make things right if I have to use my cracked 3G for even one more weekend while everyone else is unwrapping their shiny new toys.
I just got off phone with AT&T also. The rep informed me that since I ordered prior to 4pm on Friday 10/7, that the my phones will be delivered 10/14 even though the web site indicated as ‘processing’ on one phone and ‘back-order’ on the other phone. The rep guarranteed it will arrive this Friday…..we shall see.

Can’t say for sure, but my guess would be you’ll get it Friday. I’ve be in contact with people that ordered at various times on Friday and so far most of them have tracking info. It’s still early in the day though and technically they can overnight it. So info may not show till tomorrow.
Just to update you I spoke with a friend who ordered around 9PM EST and the got their tracking now so you should be good.

i bought from an att store at about 1030 am EST on friday the 7th. Received my confirmation email within a few hours, even before noon on the 7th and my email was saying 14-21 days estimated. Even now, I’m still showing that my phone is on backorder and people that have ordered after me are showing shipped? WTF is going on? I ordered a white 64gb, i thought that one would have less demand and was confident I would get one for opening day. Anyone know anything I dont?
I’ve been in contact with a lot of people and it varies. People who ordered early got shipping noticies, People who ordered early and are still back ordered, same for the late orders.
I don’t have any specific info, but being that my ship date says 10/10 and actual account just updated this morning. It’s safe to say their system isn’t the fastest to update. I’d think you’re ok based off other people in similar situations who ended up getting ship notices out of nowhere. Give it a little time and let us know how it goes.
Update: I just searched AT&T site and one phone was shipped on 10/11 (white) and the other today 10/12 (black). The tracking numbers they provided are not in the systems yet (10/11 – Fedex) & (10/12 – UPS)…but this is a good sign as the black phone no longer reads on back order!! Hoping for Santa to arrive on Friday…but holding my breath as the OP had their’s shipped 10/10. I do see that it too is a white phone…maybe the whites are shipping earlier? Either way, this will give time for my protective screens and cases to come in too.
Tracking numbers are always a plus. I think we’ll be set Friday. I’m actually about to order my case from Amazon today. With the two day free prime shipping it’ll arrive just in time. Which cases did you go with?
I’m undecided between otterbox, incase snap type case, or if I want to do the screen protector only + seidio spring clip again. Decisions… but running out of time.
Went with what worked for 3 years with my 3GS….the gel/rubber cases by Speck with a screen protector. They are easy to install/remove (2 seconds), grip the table nicely so no slips, and can be dropped off a roof of a house with no issues (happend to me).
lol, I could see that happening to me. I ended up getting the otterbox. Doubt it will be an everyday case, but I wanted something that provided a lot of protection and also came with a holster. Speck was on my list of possibilities, still may get one.
i ordered mine on the 8th. but no one informed me i had to wait. they told me to pre order it and i did. pre order to me meant i was making sure id get the phone when it came out and be like the rest of the people who pre ordered it and get them first. but im finding out now i have to wait almost a month and be one of the last people to get it ? thats not fair if we had to wait then att should tell us. this isnt pre ordering this is just buying the phone. false information !!
What time did you preorder? I know on the 8th Apple posted that the delivery times slipped. It was later in the day though.
The things with preorders is as it’s not released yet. Any order prior to Friday, regardless of when you receive will be a preorder.
If your wait is that long I’d just contact them to cancel as you can likely go to a store and purchase one sooner than it’ll ship.
You will definitely be waiting longer. You should cancel and try your luck at the store…
Just received my shipping confirmation that my Phone was shipped with a tracking # Probably Thursday or Friday. Depends on what time they actually shipped it. If it makes UPS hub in Kentucky tonight, Then I’ll get it Thursday. ATT ships big orders like this in bulk to UPS and they are not scanned into UPS system until it reaches the hub. If you ordered early on the 7th you will get your phone either Thursday or Friday morning. after that is anyones guess. Probably the ATT stores wont have stock on the launch day. Only Apple stores. that’s how it went last launch.

On shipping and tracking:
UPS/Fedex normally scans each order into the system at the merchants when they pick up. But with giant orders like these. ATT will box and tag each order then pack them into a trailer that UPS/fedex provides. When full, UPS/fedex gets a bulk shipping list with the thousands of tracking numbers on it. That big shipment is then taken to the main hub. For Fedex it’s Memphis, UPS is Kentucky. There at the hub the individual boxes are removed and scanned into the system and moved to the correct aircraft where it will then show up on the web site. It just depends on when it gets to the hub. Dont get bent if you have a tracking # and you cant find it on the UPS web site. it’s on it’s way.

Update: Mine are now tracked and set for delivery tomorrow (both phones)!! However, my crystal film set from Power Supply is still in Hong Kong and that was ordered a week ago…urrrrrgh.

Ordered my Iphone on the 8th around 9 am. I received a confirmation email stating that my iphone has been reserved and will be shipping in 14-21 days. It gave me a order number to track my order but every time I checked on the status the above message shows up. And so I called the number and and an AT&T rep told me that maybe my order didn’t go through but later told me that since i received a confirmation email and order number that I should be fine. He also told me that AT&T will be shipping all iphones tomorrow when they launch the device. Let’s just hope this guy was right because I really want to get my hands on the phone by next week if not this week.

On hold w/ AT&T who is telling me I can’t cancel my order. Why would I wait 28 days for a pre-order when I can go 1 mile and get a phone today. AT&T screwed up, again. This really makes me want to move to Verizon.

Telephone Sales (when order has not been filled) — 30 day cancellation period (B&P 17538(a), 16 CFR Part 435).
A number of laws give consumers a legal right to cancel contracts in specific transactions within a short time after the consumer signs the contract, and without giving the seller or other party a reason or having to show “legal cause.” This Legal Guide includes a list of these transactions and the periods allowed for canceling them. Note that some cancellation periods are measured in business days.
A consumer-buyer can cancel these kinds of contracts for any reason (or for no reason) and need not explain. Typically, there is no penalty for canceling under these statutes. In order to cancel, the buyer need only send the seller written notice of cancellation within the period allowed by statute. (Most cancellation periods begin when the consumer receives written notification of his or her right to cancel.)
In order to cancel, the buyer must sign and date the cancellation notice, which must state that the buyer is canceling the contract. The buyer should send the notice to the seller by certified mail, return receipt requested, at the address that the seller has given in the sale documents. Same problem occurred again today and did not ship like how the AT&T rep told me yesterday night. I called them again today and when the AT&T rep looked up my order, he told me that it needed to be manually approved. He told me he would give “Cass”(I think that’s what he said) a call so they can approve my order. So anyone have any ideas as to why my order needs to be “manually” approved?
why in the hell is my order on backorder? i ordered around noon here in alaska on the 7th. the day the preorders started… and mines on back order??? WTF?!?!?!
Can’t say for sure. I heard about 4PM EST cutoffs for shipping but that was never confirmed. My guess in your case would be either limited stock in your area or they actually submitted your order significantly later then when you actually placed it. When did you get your confirmation email in relation to when you placed the order?
Ok, I ordered iPhone 4s on Oct 9 from AT&T online store. My order was processed, and I recieved an e-mail confirming my order.
After 5 minutes I recieved another e-mail saying that my order will be mailed between 21-28 days. This e-mail also had my new AT&T phone number with my order number.
Same day I checked my bank account, and $213 were pending under AT&T order.
Today I checked my bank account, the $213 AT&T order does not exist.
Does this mean that my order has been canceled due to bad credit?
No, as far as the $213. They only charge you when it ships. Prior to it shipping, they only verify that you have the funds in your account. So basically they put a temporary hold on the funds, then they return to your account in about 72 hours. You will be charged when it ships, so no it’s not cancelled.
Hey Michael, Thank you for the quick response. Does this mean that my credit has been approved? My TransUnion credit score is 745, and my Equifax credit score is Inadequate.
You received a phone number as well as a shipping date so yes you’re all set. You aren’t even allowed to place an order online if your credit doesn’t meet their requirements.
You’d receive a message saying you need to go into the store to complete the order, and you’d also be advised they require a deposit up to $750.
Im so pissed off! I ordered my iphone 4s on saterday the 8th. throughout the whole week it wouldn’t show me the status of my phone so i gave att a call and the guy said it had to be manually approve but it would definitely ship out on today which is tuesday. well, today i checked the status again and its still back ordered!!! i called att again and the lady told me that it will take 2-3 weeks to ship out. i asked her from which date because when i had my phone manually approved, the status says that i ordered the phone on the 15th which is not correct. i actually ordered on the 8th!!! she told me it was the 15th and there was nothing she could do!! GREAT! i lost my spot because att had to manually approve my order!! now that’ll be a whole month before i actually get my iphone! this is bull! i should have cancelled my order and went to buy one in store instead! but NOO! i cant cancel my order anymore! at&t should stop telling people exact dates and promising people because they dont know anything!
You CAN cancel. Many have done it. 2-3 weeks is way too long to wait. Especially considering many stores having stock.
HOW? it said that i couldn’t cancel it anymore so please tell me more. if i can, i’m going to cancel my order right away and just go to a store and buy one
ok, the lady who i talked to from AT&T today said that my order was already at the warehouse and its just waiting to get shipped, in 2-3 weeks. Yet my status still says its back ordered. I dont get it. Doesn’t back ordered mean that its not in stock right now? So why did she tell me my iphone was at the warehouse and ready to ship? Another uncertain lie from AT&T maybe?

no, unfortunately thats when it says it’ll ship. I ordered mine on the 8th at 9:00 AM central time but because of a little problem with AT&T, my shipment date was pushed back.

BEYOND irritated with AT&T! I ordered it in store because my shipping address was wrong and I couldn’t have it shipped there. So I ordered it on the 8th and it STILL says backordered! What the heck?

Hey Big Boy, back order is a bad thing. Nearly everyone has it. It means Apple didn’t make enough iPhone’s to fulfill all their orders.
So going into today as today marks the 14th day i ordered my iphone 4s. (AT&T said 14-21 days to ship) So i am hoping that my order status will change from backordered to not back ordered. Been hearing good news that people statuses been changing in the past couple of days. So today is the 14th day. Waiting for that status change…. waiting… Ill post later tonight and update you if my order status has changed. Good luck to everyone and hopefully your order status will change!
Okay so i checked my order status and then it says sorry for the inconveince but please check in after 24 hours of your order? Its been doing this all day. Its been fine for the past couple weeks? Im really frustrated with their service right now. Pre-orders should of already shipped for everyone!!! Very disappointed in Apple’s and service providers decisions this time around.
hey man, i feel your frustration. something probably happened to your order. i kept on getting that message the first week i ordered my phone and when i finally checked a week later, they told me it had to be manually reviewed and approve. So now the status says i ordered on the 15th. One whole week from when i actually ordered. If it did get canceled i think you have more luck going to a store and getting one there instead. Good luck! still waiting for mine to ship.
i pre order on the 7 after 4pm in att store still not receive my iPhone i cant believe.. still said back order i wish i can go cancel my order they wont let me that is stupid….
So I had ordered my phone in a AT&T retail store on the 7th at noon. My confirmation email said it will ship in 14 -21 days. I’ve called the store for info and a rep from AT&T was very RUDE! I then contacted customer service and was told they could not find my order because the store I pre ordered from used a different program.. Any ways on Sunday night I decided to cancel and hope I can find one in a store. But yesterday my order changed from back order 1 to a 0 so I said fine I’ll wait to see what happens. Today I woked up and got an email that my order has shipped! It says it arrives in 2 day through fedx. There is a GOD lol. But to honest I am never preordering an iPhone ever again especially through AT&T. Dont loose hope ppl I hope this phone is worth all this stress. Good luck

i ordered my iphone on the 8th.. never got a confirmation email but a couple days ago got an email saying ‘thank you for buying the iphone, you can check your order status on the website!’ it has been 2 and a half weeks.. my order status still says backordered. i have not received word of how many days it will take to ship. 14-21? 21-28? should it be taking this long? any advice?
something probably went wrong with your order. check the order date when you look at the status. i ordered on the 8th but something happened to mine and when i got it fixed, it said i ordered on the 15th, which is the day that i got my order fixed.

Yay! My order status has changed to shipped! They also posted fedex tracking number. It is two days shipping, so it will arrive at my home on Monday around 4:00pm. I guess you’re lucky Mr. MADD.
